The Osler Origin is powered by a portfolio of novel techniques and approaches for sample addition, microfluidic sample preparation, and electrochemical biosensing, and Osler was formed out of the University of Oxford in 2017, following decades of research.
Having recently completed an $85m Series C fundraise, we are now entering a growth phase, where we are scaling our team as we take the Osler Origin product through regulatory activities, and towards market launch.

Role Overview
Osler are looking for an experienced Senior mechanical engineer to join the team in Oxford. Ideal for a proactive problem solver capable of driving effective solutions through design and documentation. This role focuses on leading design & development of mechanical components with a significant focus on preparation for design verification and future validation exercises. The role will involve operating as a design leader within cross functional teams to deliver against key company targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, prototype and develop mechanical components and assemblies into production
- Support cross functional teams with Engineering experience and best practice
- Support design verification through structured testing and documentation
- Plan and manage time and resources against the projects
- Lead RCI’s , FMEA’s, reviews and reports
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure design integrity
- Mentor and inspire others within the team and organisation
Ideal Candidate Profile
- Proactive and able to operate efficiently in a fast-paced, structured engineering environment
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in documentation
- Ability to manage small teams and work constructively within cross functional teams
- Able to demonstrate good communication skills to teams and upwards to management
- Demonstrates diligence and discipline in engineering practices

Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
Skills and experience:
- Product Development: Solid understanding of how to design, develop, engineer and implement components into an internal or external production environment.
- Manufacturing & Design Experience: Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, material selection, and proficiency in CAD tools, particularly SolidWorks and PDM.
- Verification & Validation: Experience with engineering verification and validation methodologies, including their application in product development cycles.
- Technical Drawing Proficiency: Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) for accurate and compliant technical drawings.
- Quality & Compliance familiarity: Interest in developing personal practices aligned with Good Documentation Practice (GDP) and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).
- Industry Experience: Prior experience ideally within regulated sectors such as diagnostics or medical devices demonstrating an understanding of requirements-driven engineering. Osler will also welcome applications from recent graduates who can demonstrate suitable experience.

Note: The successful candidate is expected to normally work 5 days per week at Oslers offices in central Oxford. There is a possibility that some travel will be expected to support operations with Oslers contract manufacturers and suppliers.
