The Osler Origin is powered by a portfolio of novel techniques and approaches for sample addition, microfluidic sample preparation, and electrochemical biosensing, and Osler was formed out of the University of Oxford in 2017, following decades of research.

Having recently completed an $85m Series C fundraise, we are now entering a growth phase, where we are scaling our team as we take the Osler Origin product through regulatory activities, and towards market launch.

We are now looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop mechanical parts, assemblies & systems as part of a Mechanical R&D team

Key Responsibilities:

  • Detailed design and specification of components and assemblies for manufacture of a complex electro-mechanical Instrument and/or moulded consumable in the medical domain
  • Engineering design analysis (e.g calculations, stress analysis, CFD / FEA modelling)
  • Broad range of Mechanical Engineering activities: Root cause analysis, Problem solving, documentation, design control, requirements writing, test planning, test design, Change Management, Tool Design
  • Part and sub assembly verification testing and reporting

Skills:

Essential skills/experience

  • Knowledge of materials & moving mechanisms/actuators, design of & integration of electro-mechanics such as motors, heaters, sensors, switches, slides, solenoids etc.
  • Confident 3D CAD practitioner (ideally Solidworks)
  • Knowledge and experience of mass manufacturing techniques, especially sheet metal structures, cast parts & plastics injection moulding
  • Hands On root cause analysis, testing, problem solving, Design for Cost
  • Design of complex injection moulded plastic components to approved tool and volume production

Desirable skills/experience

  • Demonstrable Design for Manufacture/Assembly/Service/Cost experience - mid to high volume
  • Proven experience of developing electro-mechanical or consumable designs into products within a commercial environment.
  • Familiar and comfortable user of the: DFMEA process, Six Sigma tools problem-Solving processes, Requirements management, authoring Functional Descriptions, Verification processes, tooling knowledge
  • PDM and PLM user experience
  • Extensive moulding/tool design experience in very high volume consumable domain
